PVHS Students Attend Interact Conference

On Tuesday, PikeView's Interact Club went to the Chuck Mathena Center for its annual Interact Conference. Here, clubs from Princeton, St. Albans, Bluefield, and other area schools came to discuss what different chapters of Interact have done accomplished over the year and what members can do to help their communities. At the conference, members were able to talk to the other chapters and get new ideas about what they can do in the future. Different speakers attended and spoke about drug awareness and being an entrepreneur.

Skills USA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 320,000 high school and college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and service occupations, including health occupations. PikeView students Sloan Norman, Tyler Masters, Sarah Gullet, Breanna Caccamo, Destiny Rose, Brandon Meadows, and Kyle Whittaker competed April 15th and 16th in Kingwood, WV against students across the state in their categories. Students Sloan Norman, Destiny Rose, and Brandon Meadows all received special recognition in their categories. Sloan Norman won the silver medal for the job interview competition, Destiny Rose proved her talents at the conference and was elected historian for state office and received a bronze medal in first aid and CPR, and Brandon Meadows received a bronze medal in collision repair.

Anglers Club Forming

An Anglers Club is forming for the first time in school history. All of the best anglers from PikeView will travel to various locations and fish for a huge variety of fish. The first trip scheduled is on Saturday, March 12th, at Bulltail in Bluefield, WV. The state of West Virginia has just stocked the lake with 2,900 pounds of trout at the beginning of the week. If interested, see Mr. Hope to sign up. Angler Club members need to have their updated fishing licenses before fishing as part of the club. Experienced fishermen and those new to the sport are welcome to join.
RAZE tears down big tobacco lies!

Raze just recently went to the capital in Charelston and protested against the use of tobacco among teens. As a part of the teen advisory council (TAC), members attended a press conference in front of all the regions of RAZE groups, schools, and community. RAZE members also told stories of why they decided to join RAZE and why teens and adults shouldn't smoke. Members also showed pictures of people they knew that smoked and how they were affected by it. While attending the press conference, the state government was deciding whether to add higher taxes on citrates, tobacco, nicotine or not. Even with all the efforts by RAZE, the state didn't pass the tobacco tax increase. However, RAZE members won't give up and plan on holding more events in the coming year.
