Spring Fashion 2016

Spring fashion styles are blossoming in the halls of PikeView High. As the weather heats up, the shorts, dresses, and flip flops come out with some cute new trends this spring. Floral dresses and low-high dresses are filling the halls, as well as cute sandals and flip flops! We've seen a lot of sporty looks as well, including trendy tennis shoes and shorts. Guys are throwing on their tank tops and showing off the guns with this weather getting nicer! Hot weather calls for change in wardrobe, but the students here at PikeView High always seem to stay in style!

Newspaper staff Ashley Taylor and Tommi Cole are rocking dresses and enjoying this warm, wonderful weather!

Above, Cheyenne Mitchem and Katie Mullins both show of their cute sense of style with some rockin' flip flops!

Jessica May is sporting the active look with trendy tennis shoes and running shorts!

Meet the Teacher: Master Sergeant Riggs

Q: Where did you graduate college?

A: I graduated from Mountain State University in 2011.

 

Q: What majors/minors do you hold?

A: I have a Masters of Science in Strategic Leadership.

 

Q: Where else have you taught?

A: This is my first teaching job in a high school.

 

Q: How long have you been teaching?

A: This is my first year.

 

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I love to golf, bowl and play Xbox.

 

Q: What do you like about our school?

A: I have been working in the Mercer County school system for about 8 years as a National Guard Recruiter before this job and I have always loved the students' attitudes the most.

   

Q: How can I use the classes you teach in life?

A: I mostly teach discipline, self-motivation and self-reliance.   This will always get you far in life.

                 

Q: What type of music do you listen to?

A: I love all types, but mostly country & hip hop.

 

Q: Is there anything else that you feel your students would like to know about you?

A: I have wanted to be a JROTC Instructor for a long time and am very excited to have this opportunity. I have 26 years of military experience to share and love working with young adults.

 

Q: What is your favorite book?

A: So far, it is “Battle Field Earth” by L. Ron Hubbard.

 

Q: What can you tell us about your military career?

A: I have 26 years of military service in active duty and National Guard. [I] served as a MLRS crewmember in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. I also had another stateside deployment with the National Guard in Operation Noble Eagle. I also have 7 years’ experience as a sheriff’s deputy in McDowell County.

 

Q: Who motivates you and why?

A: I am motivated by people who are dedicated to this nation and its protection.

 

Q: If you didn’t become a teacher, what would you be?

A: I would probably be a Human Resource director at a company.
