Prom Problems     by: Julia Olachea

Prom: the highlight of most seniors’ high school years, when spending an exorbitant amount of money on something they will more than likely only wear once, is acceptable. The night most juniors look forward to for two years, thinking that prom is a rite-of-passage, where you can dance the night away and be a part of a social class that they wouldn’t have a dream of being a part of regularly…. Definitely a night to remember.

However, this is not always the case. There are always the classic “wall-flowers” that sit waiting for someone to dance with them, the socially awkward people who stand in the corner and sway to the music, and of course, the “popular” group that dance right in the middle of everything, admired by all. All in all, the social standings of high school, contrary to most beliefs, are still standing and are as strong as ever. After all, not everybody would dance with just anybody.

Not only is the social aspect of prom complicated, but also getting the attire for prom itself. Trying to find the right dress is not only stressful, but also time-consuming and expensive. Especially since most girls have to travel to find “the dress”. Not only that, but also having to get the dress altered, if needed, and finding shoes and the right accessories to match the dress. And of course getting your date (if you have one) to match with you and having to rent a tux. It’s honestly a big hassle.

However, one of the most satisfying experiences is finally showing up to prom with your date, or group of friends and feeling like all the effort and money you put into this night wasn’t a waste. Overall, prom is what you make it. So make it a night to remember.
